Pictures - 27 May

I've been taking a lot of silly pictures recently. I'm liking Flickr a lot and have abandoned my own photo site almost completely. In fact, I probably have abandoned it, certainly I can't see myself using it again. Not with the software I was using anyway.

So. Talking more silly pictures (mostly of squircles) and uploading them. This of course means that I want a new camera. Again, there is nothing wrong with my current one. It takes decent pictures with nice colours and is easy to carry around. It is a little slow to get going and I haven't managed to get rechargeable batteries that can last for more than a few flash shots, but these aren't insurmountable problems.

But still, I want a new camera. I was playing with the idea of a Dimage Z3, but recently I've been mulling over the camera that all the cool kids use -- the Nikon D70. This is about three times the price. And huge. One of the 'selling points' I've been using on myself is that I have Nikon compatible lenses that I will be able to use with this camera -- but really, look at that thing! Am I ever going to carry it around?

I should stop being so silly and do something sensible with that Eur1000. Like, er, buy a laptop.

I've just noticed the icon for the upload program for Flickr is two polaroids and an arrow. How long before no-one recognises the shape of a polaroid, I wonder?

Anyway. One week until we go on holidays. No-one is particularly bothered. Spoilt we are. The two adults and one almost teenager will be looking to do very little. Anna, in particular, will be looking forward to apres-exams and no homework for three months, thanks. Poor kid. She's worked very hard this year and came first in her year academically. Considering she went into that huge school (1500+ students) knowing no-one (and in tears), she's done fantastically and Sally and I are very proud of her.

So we'll eat and wander and go see the glacier and the lake and swim and (hopefully) sunbathe.

I've had a graphics tablet knocking around for a while but I only hooked it up today as I was doing some low-level fiddling on an image. It's a bit frustrating to use, as you can't move the position of the screen relative to your hand, very easily (the equivalent of lifting up your mouse and setting it down somewhere else) but for doing little fiddly touch-ups it's really much easier than click and scrub the mouse. Totally hopeless for actual computer mousing around though. You're better off learning the keyboard shortcuts for the tools because having to tap the toolbar to select a different tool is really annoying.

I was looking at this shot of me, the other day. It's about two years old and I noticed that in another picture, I was wearing the same shirt even though it was a different time. Then I noticed that I was wearing the same Simpsons t-shirt in both pictures. Then I realised that I was actually wearing the same shirt and t-shirt right that very minute!

Jesus, I need new clothes.
