Minty Fresh - 26 May

Ok. In order to prove I am not totally off the beam in regard to What Is Important I will address the Roy Keane thing. It's not that it doesn't matter to me but I'm painfully aware that it mightn't matter to you and even if it does you've probably heard enough about it for it to be cruel to burden you further. So despite that and despite the fact that I feel slightly silly for caring in the first case, let me say these two things. If Roy wanted to play, he would be doing all he could to kiss and make up. If Mick wanted him to play, he would be doing all he could to kiss and make up. Neither of them are, so neither of them do and nothing anyone else says changes this.

Without wanting to sound all literary and stuff, the situation reminds me of the story of The Outsider (or The Stranger, depending on your translation). In this story a man who shot another gets the guillotine basically because he didn't cry at his mother's funeral. Because he doesn't conform to socially acceptable norms he gets the more severe sentence.

The parallels are there if you care to look for them.

On a not so tangential note I watched the Coen Bros. movie The Man Who Wasn't There tonight and it had similar resonances. Man gets into an increasingly complex situation which can be traced directly back to his actions and yet you don't really feel he deserves to reap that particular whirlwind. I liked it well enough (despite it's glacial pace) but it wasn't as snappy as other Coen Bros. offerings. Perhaps a second viewing is in order. I still have to rewatch Oh Brother Where Art Thou as the first viewing was dominated by the music and I feel I missed a lot the first time around.

We've had the painters in. Or out. The outside of the house is taking on a distinctly minty fresh look. Sally chose what she described as "turquoise", but she didn't admit this to myself or Anna until it was a done deal (or at least a bought paint). I have no real interest in the outside colour of the house (especially as we're moving), but it does look like a large mint Vienetta.

And a redesign. I'm not like Mr. Lileks who redesigns (beautifully) every week, but I grew tired of the old name. So here's the new one.
